The weekly Dark Age of Camelot Grab Bag is online at the Camelot Herald as is a link to Mythic's blog for the San Francisco leg of the 2006 Roundtable Roadtrip. Here's a sample from the Grab Bag:Q: I've noticed that the /use2 charge (chink in the armor) on my foppish sleeves gets resisted a lot. Should this be something that can be resisted? Doesn't seem in keeping with things like Battler and Malice procs uses.
A: This one was a bit complex. First, I went to Designer Brian, and he answered:
"The level of the spell is set to 50, so it would be resisted the same amount as a regular level 50 spell. The only difference might be resists by the player, as Chink in the Armor uses a different damage type as opposed to Battlers /use2."
So that was design intent. My next stop in these cases is always with a programmer to be sure our reality and our intent are the same thing. Programmer Brian responded:
"Item spells can indeed be resisted if that's the question here. In general the resists are still based off the player's level and spell's level. If we're talking a 50 against a 50, and a 50th level spell being used (Before all of the other crazy bonuses and resists are factored in), you're looking at a base 85% hit rate - no different than any other spell cast against a totally equal target."
The item in question is not set any differently than the others you mention. You may have just had a bad run of luck. The trouble with a true random roll is that previous bad luck doesn't have any impact on your current chances.
As I hope this answer proves, though, I am ALWAYS willing to investigate. More... | Source: Camelot Herald |
