Four developers from ClownKeep have been interviewed about their episodic fantasy CRPG 'The Chronicles of Ny' at WarCry:WarCry: Tell us about The Chronicles of Ny. What sets it apart from other games in the fantasy RPG genre?
Bruce: The idea of a fantasy setting where you are interacting with the party members as much as with the world around you is a key concept we are working towards. In every game I have seen or played, the other people that are not played by a real person are very cardboard. They are either opponents, information sources, or tools to be used. We want to give NPC’s that you meet and interact with, especially the party that you will gather together with, goals and personalities unique to each one. Your leadership of those people and the makeup of your party will determine your style of play and your success. Some people that you take in might not fit for a variety or reasons, but you won’t know until you talk with and adventure with them. Your control of them is through your dialogue and effectiveness of leadership. Hopefully, after a while, you will be able to identify them as unique and compelling characters in their own right…or maybe irritating flakes that need to be left behind for better and more effective companions. In any case, we hope each one will provoke their own independent reactions to you. |
