The Wargamer has posted up an in-depth preview of Westwood's upcoming space MMORPG Earth & Beyond. Here's the introduction:
Massively multiplayer online gaming is still very much in its infancy, and nowhere is this more apparent than in its lack of variety. While roleplaying junkies can decapitate orcs in a host of titles, other genres are almost unrepresented. The worst luck of all probably belongs to space simulations, whose long-suffering fans have had to endure a spate of disappointments ranging from the cancellation of Privateer Online to the endless postponements of Freelancer. Westwood studios hopes to give Wing Commander refugees a place to call home later this year when it releases Earth and Beyond, a game likely to be one of the first massively multiplayer space simulations to hit store shelves. The ongoing beta test, now in its seventh phase, shows considerable promise. |
