Electric Playground has conducted an interview with Producer Anoop Shekar about the upcoming PS2 game Summoner 2. You'll read interesting stuff about how they look at RPG's and what they plan to do:
Q: As perhaps the lone American console development team working on an RPG, does it feel good or intimidating to be the standard bearer for the nation?
A: It's definitely a challenge. Japanese RPGs are huge, especially Final Fantasy. We don't necessarily want to compete with those, but rather create a different sort of game for people who don't like or are tired of previous offerings. The American RPG is just a different type of game.
Q: Given that you're creating a "different" RPG, what then does Summoner 2 offer that competitors don't?
A: The real-time combat with party-based elements. I don't think any other game has done that. Zelda and Dark Cloud have real-time melee, but don't have multiple characters that you control with different abilities at one time, and I think that's a plus for us. |
