GameInfoWire has whipped up a review of BioWare's 'Jade Empire'. The score is 8.5/10 and here's a snippet:Martial arts and computer gaming of course have a long history together. I can remember button-mashing my way through a castle filled with ninjas to rescue a princess in some ancient game for the Apple II. Even if you're too young to remember games like that, you've certainly played "Mortal Kombat" or one of its innumerable imitators. But always there's been something missing from the genre--the great martial arts movies don't just involve fight scenes, they use the fighting to tell a story, and that's an element that has been distinctly lacking from their computer counterparts. Now, at last, Bioware has come to do what they do best--build an RPG--and set it in a fictional landscape that looks somewhat like medieval China. Playing this game you'll have a lot of fighting to do, but you'll spend even more time exploring the landscape, talking to NPCs, and indoctrinating yourself in the game's mystical underpinnings. So does a martial arts RPG play? Read on! |
