Here's an excerpt: Anyone can use the portals that connect Osteth's eight major cities. In the wilderness, however, you may eventually encounter a portal you can't use. Each portal has a minimum experience level requirement to pass through it. (You can see this rating by clicking once on the portal while your Examine panel is open.) While this level restriction might seem like a drawback at first, it can actually be helpful. If you don't have the minimum level to leap through a portal, you probably aren't powerful enough to defeat the creatures on the other side. As you "level up" your character, you may want to jump through the portals along a Ringway until you find an area where the creatures nearby are approximately the same level that you are. If you can't use a portal, then the hunting ground on the other side is probably too dangerous.
