There is a new Neverwinter Nights feature at Gamespy - entitled "Creating Memorable Characters". Basically, it tells you how to create interesting NPC's for the game. Here's a bit for you:
For our first suggestion this day, I would impress upon you the need for important characters to have frequent meetings and longer conversations with your players. This technique allows a player to find a solid foothold in a story -- someone that the player can relate to, and who is readily available to the player. This foothold gives the player the security to branch out and slowly adjust to your world, making it his own. Of course, for this to work properly a non-player character must be both interesting and useful to the story. A character that provides quest information to the player or the owner of a store that the player must frequent are good examples of characters who can be an anchor for the player. A character that serves no purpose may be interesting, but the player will, more often than not, not take the time to find out. |
