A Trade Wars Q&A with David Adams, the lead designer on Realm Interactive's upcoming sci-fi MMORPG, has been published at Gamespy. Here's how this interview starts:
GameSpy: Let's get the obvious questions out of the way first. What's the basic premise behind the game?
David Adams: Dark Millennium is a space-fantasy game set in a mysterious and mystical future. It contains all the classic elements of science fiction such as starships, blasters, power armor, and alien creatures. In addition, there are elements of typical fantasy: heroic characters, swords, spell craft, epic struggles, feudal/medieval social structures, mystical artifacts and unsolved mysteries.
The game is basically a 3rd person online action-RPG with heavy emphasis on questing. One of our primary design goals is to make every aspect of the game fun. Any element of a typical online RPG, which is perceived as boring and tedious, has been streamlined or removed. Trade Wars is much more than a modernized 3D MUD. We have opted to design the game from the ground up to be a modern online RPG, and have foregone any semblance to previous MUD designs. We ALWAYS err on the side of fun. |
