FileFront's Ron Whitaker brings us his rather interesting interview with Cops 2170: The Power of Law Designer, Max Tumin...
Q: Could you give the readers a little more detail on the turn-based combat system in Cops 2170? Why did you choose turn-based combat over another system?
A: The turn-based system in Cops 2170 works as follows: while you don’t see any hostile entities, you remain in a Real-time at which time you can go where ever you want and do whatever you wish. If you encounter a hostile entity or if you become hostile on any entity, the game then switches to turn-based mode in which each character has a certain number of action points (depending on their stats). AP may be used to move, attack or use items. When your characters are out of AP you have to press the “End turn” button to let your enemies and other entities make their actions. As they do so you will see a “Hidden movement” screen. If a character has enough AP during the enemies turn, he can interrupt it and shoot at the enemy if he sees him and if his stats allow for interruption.
