6/10 is the result of a review of Icewind Dale 2 at EpiGamer. Here's their summary:
I think in conclusion, I know where this game went wrong. Despite some colossal advances in graphics (which any computer should be able to run by the way) it comes nowhere close to the lofty heights of Baldur’s Gate. I think it was because of a lack of love from the makers. Much more could have added. The main quest could have been expanded with more significant side quests. There could have been more talking, more imagination into where the plot was heading. Instead it seems to have ended in a premature mess that looks rushed. And now I’m beginning to sound a bit harsh. I haven’t even mentioned the Heart of Fury that adds more monsters and difficulties to those wanting to tackle the game at a higher level. Yet who would want to replay a game that hasn’t been thought through properly in the first place? I could of course be wrong. The constant repetitive combat could be for some people. There is a lot more direction than in Baldur’s Gate. However all my thoughts seem to be harking back to is to what would Baldur’s Gate 2 be like if they could bolt on the new improvements. Icewind Dale 2 has the best engine of the lot, which much I will yield. It’s just the rest of its features are not very good. |
