Kevin "Q-3PO" O'Hara (Community Relations Manager), Raph "Holocron" Koster (Creative Director) and Haden "Shug_Ninx" Blackman (Lucas Arts Producer) have all three posted news about the delay of the long promised and highly anticipated Quick Time teaser movie which is supposed to be showing off in-game footage of SOE's/Lucas Arts' Star Wars MMORPG (Source: Official boards).
According to them the movie is more or less finished but details of distribution and some legal stuff have to be checked on before it can be released.
1) Q-3PO:Ah waiting is the hardest part, especially when you don't understand what you are waiting on. Well, in the case of the E3 teaser movie, let me tell you. The movie is done. Just about 30 seconds of actual in-game footage as promised. We all can't wait to put it up for you to see.
Unfortunately, it is still going to be two weeks or so. There is turn-around time involved in getting certain legal text that must go on the movie as well as official logos. In addition, special arrangements have to be made to host the movie considering the expected number of downloads. Normally this wouldn't be a long process, but this time, it is taking awhile (Sony Online Entertainment is in the process of making an official corporate logo, for instance).
I will give you a better update later this week.
2) Holocron:We didn't show a movie at E3, blur. We played the game in front of them. We had a couple of client machines there and a game server. It was "live" not canned. Turning a live thing into a canned movie is a bunch of extra work--setting up shots, storyboarding, blah blah blah...
3) Shug_Ninx:I'll take the blame for this delay. We at LucasArts have very specific things that we want the teaser to convey. We also want to include a soundtrack mixed by our LucasArts sound designers, using Skywalker Sound assets. And, of course, anything this important needs to go through a pretty intensive approval process. All of the above takes time.
However, today I saw a version of the teaser that will hopefully be considered final.
