You can find a Star Wars: Galaxies interview with Haden Blackman at Electric Playground. Here's a bit about playtesting and what it can (and should) do for stability:
Q: Stability and maintenance issues--how hard will you whip the playtesters to avoid getting hung up with these?
HB: A very intensive playtesting period will happen. There's a staff of testers here at LucasArts who'll pound on the game. For us, a smooth launch is absolutely critical. The biggest issue isn't necessarily the bugs though, since those will be there by default and we can patch them. The larger issue is whether or not we can handle the server traffic on day one, knowing how many copies will be parcelled out, if all players can be supported from the get go. That's been a big problem with other MMOs. We'll spend several months testing out the servers here with huge populations, as many people as we can. Most of our concern lies there. |
