1UP has conducted an interview with Matthew Wilson, Producer at Microsoft and responsible for the company's Norse mythology themed MMORPG 'Mythica'.
Here's a clip:1UP-Ivan: Can you make any comparison to offline RPGs of where you want the combat system to go?
Matthew Wilson: It'd be hard to really put my finger down on any one. I think we're a little faster paced than Knights of the Old Republic and Baldur's Gate, but I do think Knights of the Old Republic is a good example. We've pulled some inspiration from it that we've really enjoyed. We're faster-paced, though. This isn't a click and turn type of game.
I suppose how we really differentiate ourselves from any other RPG out there is with our god oriented combat. We have a concept of the mortals and horde creatures and how you, as a god, should really be able to take on a lot of them and see high impact deaths and high impact shatters and knock backs. This should make players feel like they have awesome power. When it comes to taking on other immortals, whether it's the Fire Giants or other corrupted, you then have to really start thinking more tactical in the way you combat. This is where help from your friends is going to be key.
Anyway, it's difficult for me to put my finger on a comparison that's already out there because we're faster paced and more visceral. |
