Another MMO article can be found at Just RPG today, this time an interview with Nevrax' David Cohen Corval on 'The Saga of Ryzom':JustRPG: The screenshots and teasers introduce us to a vegetation ruled world and inhabitants (both animal and humanoid) with a very original graphical style. What were your main visual influences and sources of inspiration when designing Ryzom?
DCC: Personally, I was influenced by a lot of Japanese animation movies that portray all different kinds of fantasy world that are not the traditional elves and orcs ones. We wanted to keep some of the strong fantasy archetypes but also take them into a realistic world that wasn’t just an IP dressing. I think Ryzom is closer to animation movies than it is to classic game representations. Things like the Dune novels, which blend science-fiction and fantasy together, were also an influence when developing Ryzom. |
