A brand spanking new interview has been put up on Blue Monday today, featuring Raphael Colantonio, the lead designer, producer and founder of Arkane Studios (wow). Heres a snippet about the Ultima Underworld influence on the game:

Back when you first announced Arx Fatalis, you said you were inspired by the classic Ultima Underworlds. Now that the game is near completion, do you think the UW influence will be clearly visible to the players?

    Hehe, that's a cool question :)
When we started the game, we had UW in mind, as well as other games that we venerate. As the game moved forward into the development phase, we progressively saw it evolving and developing its own identity. Up to a point that now, nobody could tell "hey, this is a whatever-like ! ".
I'm sure people will see Arx as a very unique game which has never been done before. Saying that, yes (big yes), fans of UW will find some clearly visible influences, and even easter eggs that we really wanted to put in... obviously the purpose of easter eggs is to be secret, so I won't tell you more...

You can read the entire interview right here, or, if you prefer Spanish over English, then check out the Spanish version here.
