RPG Vault has put up the second and final part of their 'Jade Empire' interview (first part here). Topics in part 2: Weapons, magic, enemies, quests and more...
Jade Empire is the latest in a succession of keenly anticipated titles from acclaimed Canadian developer BioWare. It takes place in an original world inspired by the legends of ancient China. Emperor Sun Hai rules over the titular domain, which recently suffered a horrible drought, one so long and massive it caused immeasurable damage to crops, animals and entire communities. For a time, it looked as though the Empire itself might collapse. However, just when the situation appeared to be beyond hope, Sun Hai was able to bring welcome rain to the land. Although no one knows what he did or how, the streams, rivers, ponds and lakes rose again, and the forests and fields returned to their former verdant richness. As testament to this magnificent feat, water now flows continuously from the Imperial Palace, cascading to the ground below.

The visible evidence of peace and prosperity might easily lead to the impression that all is well. Unfortunately, such is not the case. The Emperor is no longer the man or the leader he once was. Indeed, control of the realm has fallen to Death's Hand, a seemingly invincible warrior whose face remains hidden behind a sinister mask. His followers, the Lotus Assassins, are everywhere, and those brave or foolish enough to speak out against him have a tendency to vanish very soon after. Rule based on respect has been replaced by a reign of terror. Ending it will require someone versed in the martial arts and arcane powers, someone who can learn enough to overcome formidable human and supernatural enemies. With the game about to ship, we set out to learn more from several members of the core team.
