Shacknews has an interview with Thomas Kirchenkamp about the current state of Call of Cthulhu - Dark Corners of the earth. Well, the status isn't something that shines, actually, as you can see from this snippet:
Jason: Pretty much the biggest game from Fishtank that our readers wanted to know about is Call of Cthulhu. So people wanted to see it, and I was told that it's not here. And I wanted to know what the status of the game is.
Thomas: The status of the game is...first I'll say the status of Fishtank, and then I'll go to the game. The status of Fishtank is, that the multitude of Fishtank assets have been transferred to JoWood. This is not true at this point in time for Call of Cthulhu. The reason is very simple, in fact there are two reasons for it. The one reason is, that the product is seriously delayed, the last milestone plan we received from Headfirst -- the developers, said that they...well, the plan was first to release in November of 2001. Then we put an additional budget in it, and set for June 2002. Now we have the new milestone plan, which arrived I think three weeks ago, which says Spring 2003. So this is something we have to manage with the studio, and we're willing to do this, but this is one reason why it's not here.
The second reason is, the rights have not been transferred to JoWood. And the reason for this is with the developer, because we're doing this very cooperative, which means the development studio has to agree on this transfer. Although we have some contracts and agreements that are necessary, but we were very open and talked to all the studios, all these agreed to transfer the rights, but Headfirst [has] not. I will not relay the reasons for it in this discussion now, but it's okay, it's not necessary for the rights to be transferred because the agreement with Headfirst gives us flexibility to, if we want, publish or distribute the title under JoWood or Ravensburger or anybody else. But the preconditions to show the title and to publish it are that the milestones are held, because if the product is not there, and is not close to release, it doesn't make sense to show it. Ugh. |
