In for some reading? How about this Anachronox review at Dead Alfs (no kidding)? It gives the game an overlall rating of 7/10 and has to say this as their conclusion:

Stats don't play a massive part in Anachronox and can be ignored until the battles really start to heat up. Experience is automatically assigned to the skills used in earning the points, so if you keep Sly using a trusty Blaster, his 'Beatweapon' skill will increase. In the same way, the more a character uses Mystech the more powerful their Mystech will be. In addition, all manner of amulets and other body ornaments can be worn to give protection of different sorts, and then there's the NRG level you need to maintain to power your Mystech… It's all quite complex as you can see, but the learning curve is very forgiving.

Anachronox is definitely not D&D, and it's not quite Deus Ex either. It is refreshing however, to see this sort of game written specifically for the PC. The story is funny, engaging and full of interesting creatures and weirdo sub games. Download the demo and give it a try. It might be to your liking.
