Very nice. The first FPS I ever completed because of the roleplay elements involved. Nice story, multiple endings, and cool cybertech gear... the closest thing to a Shadowrun RPG yet (and probably ever).
No, the super-nintendo shadowrun did NOT count. |

This action/sneaker/RPG blend offers one of the most immersive gameplay experiences to date. Although many feel this title shouldn't be classified as an RPG, the choice-driven, story-driven gameplay suggests that it fits the genre a whole lot better than many other games in this database. Its cyberpunk'ish setting, cool gadgets, and conspiracy-laden storyline all make this game into one of the top releases of 2000. |

also if everybody loves it, it didn't cought me. i started maybe 6 or 7 times the game, but when i arrive to the hotel (maybe in 4th stage) im already bored and drop off.
However i cannot say anything bad about it, it's all good, all there,but i don't like it. |

It had rpg elements, but i never really thought of it as an RPG. You just cant make a true rpg with a 3dfps engine (Unreal). However it was very intruiging and fun. The game was too dark though, i dont remember any sunshine really, which kinda brings down my mood. |

Almost perfect blend of action, adventure and RPG elements. Forces player to make real choices which impact the story. Can be played as more of a sneaker than an action game. I can't wait for Deus Ex 2. |

Very nice game, specially for a FPS. When released, it's engine was already a bit outdated, but the stoyrling was good which is very important, but it wasn't good enough as to make me "forget" the dated engine. |

Nice game, especially in the beginning stages, the illusion of freedom was huge at the time. Got a bit duller near the end though, the level design was not as good and the only way to get through the levels was to blast everything. Still the highlights of the game (especially the cities) easily make up for the duller chapters/levels. |

How the hell can I rate Morrowind and Gothic 9 and Deus Ex 10?! Who knows and who cares. I love this game! I have beaten it on every skill-level, using stealth, sniper and raw power. I have spent hours searching for hidden areas, rare dialogues, strange occurances. There's always something new to see whenever I return to this game! Although the story is pretty linear, there are so many different solutions to every problem in the game that you never grow tired of it. Damn good story too. Too bad the "feel" of the game wasn't top notch. Sometimes you could shoot someone in the head from below, and some invisible part of the NPC's chest would take the bullet.. Stuff like that. Best Tech RPG so far! |

This game offers a lot of freedom and multiple ways to accomplish your goals.
The designers figured out that in order to create an immersive world they need to enhance the ability of the player to alter : alter his/her environemnt , storyline , ways to overcome problems. they did so very well in this title.
the only problem with this game is a somewhat unbalanced later half of the game ( you can depend only on one method to accompish your gaols ) which substracts from an otherwise amazing first half of the game ( where you actually use your brains to accomplish tasks ) who gets close to a "10" mark on scale.
If Ion Storm will release a balanced sequel with impovements on some technical issues ( a.i , graphics etc ) then they will sure have a classic on their hands.

Similar to System Shock 2 on many levels, but with a less intense atmosphere. Storyline is linear, but there are over a dozen levels. Each one can be approached in a number of different ways, and they take a long, long time to finish. Great value. |

The fact that the only way you can change the world in this game is what you do in the final mission and not any of the others makes this a fairly poor RPG, IMHO.

Warren Spector, ex-Looking Glasser and brain behind or partly behind The Ultima Underworlds, System Shock and Thief, has done it again! With his newest game, Deus Ex, he manages to create a world so real that it is hard to believe it isn't. Pool balls richochet around the table until the game is finished, water fountains heal (a little), ATM machines can be hacked, and life in general is not too different from life here (yes, there is a real world out there somewhere)...with the one exception that most of us are not agents with the United Nations Anti-Terrorist Coalition, and neither are we involved in a desperate race to save the world. With an unashamed conservative perspective and uninhibited gameplay, Deus Ex ranks with Gothic, Thief, Thief Gold and System Shocks I & II as one of the few games to even (or so I hear) be played beyond the pearly gates. |

This one was a very enjoyable, epic adventure. It's a fair RPG too, you can solve most problems in many different ways, and much depends on what augmentations you choose to use (which also has an effect on level exploration). As a FPS...well, you have to take in account that if you're going to play an anti-terrorist agent, you probably will use some projectiles...I mean, if it were a medieval game, you'd use a sword, right (FPS = First Person Sworder ;)? So I wouldn't mark it as a FPS, but as an adventure with a good mix of RPGing. |

A brilliant game. Maybe not a heavy duty RPG, but brilliant as far as FP RPG's go. Another of my "resident" games. Doesnt get 10 because:
a) Way too gfx intensive. At time it dragged itself.
b) Towards the end it became "blast everything in sight" style instead of the multiple-path extravaganza of the first/mid levels. |

This cool game is primary an intelligent and extremely exciting FPS (shooter/sneaker).
It has some RPG-elements, but that's not what's making it exciting - it's the story. A great plot.
Everything in this game runs smoothly. The interface and controls are great.
That's the way every FPS should be.
As an FPS I'll give it 10+ and as a RPG I'll give it 8+. |

I'm going to go ahead and call this game an RPG because half of the games on today's market that call themselves an "RPG" don't have half the story contained in Deux Ex. After all, it is R-O-L-E-P-L-A-Y-I-N-G, putting yourselves in the hero's shoes, making decisions that affect the story going on in the game and in your own head as you roleplay your character. If you have problems with first-person shooter mechanics, you're really missing out because Deus Ex was one of a kind! I admit, sometimes the entire futuristic conspiracy angle came off a little cheesy, but it was one heck of a fun game! I'm ready to be disappointed with the sequel, seems like the successors are never as good as the originals. |

Deus Ex is probably the only really successful attempt at combining an RPG with an FPS, as far as I know. It has an outstanding story, a great futuristic setting and game world, lots of nasty weapons, great character development, multiple solutions to every problem and even above average graphics. This game is on my Top 5 Of All Time list, that's for sure. |

This cool game is primary an intelligent and extremely exciting FPS (shooter/sneaker). It has some RPG-elements, but that's not what's making it exciting - it's the story. A great plot. Everything in this game runs smoothly. The interface and controls are great. |

Not quite an RPG but its a good game nontheless. The feeling is awesome and JC Denton looks cooler in sunglasess than Neo.
The best part of the game are the 3 possible endings especially the one with Tracer Tong. |

Deus Ex is another masterpiece to me. It got a well exploited story, real strong replay value, credible and brilliant storyline. Wierd thing is I disliked the game with its demo version at first, because the controls of the game weren't intuitive to me. But when I touched the full version 6 months later, just to give it another chance, strangely I found it REALLY attractive and user-friendly. The other advantage of this game is that the community of this game released lot of Good MODS, which given even more replayability to the game.
I think Deus Ex is one of the 10 best games ever, aside with the following games, whitch I suggest strongly: Ultima Underworld, System Shock 2, Arx Fatalis (UW3), Deus Ex 2, Legacy of Kain (Blood Omen), Morrowind. See also Doom 3, Gauntlet 2, Ishar 3, Land of Lore for other enjoyable games.

A very fun game, with an awesome storyline. I find it hard to see it in a list with titles like Morrowind or Ultima 7 though. Action/RPG vs. True RPG =/. In relation to those I'll have to lower my rating, but as an action RPG it is definately up there (9). |

this is the BEST FPS i have ever played, because it is NOT a FPS in the recent style. you have to manage your inventory, upgrade yours skills, learn abilities, and while it is NOT LINEAR. you can go many different ways at a lot of the points in the game, and even when you cant choose your objectives (e.g. you have 2 go steal a passcard) there are at least 3 ways to do it, and as many as 8 (perhaps more, that is my record)

I bought this game twice. The first time I did not have the computer to run the game, so back to the store it went. About 6 months later after I had my new machine I got the game again. If my harddrive hadn't crashed I would still have this on my computer today. One testament to the great game design is that 6 years later people are still playing this game and loving it. |
