We just received this press release about Black Moon Chronicles going beta on October 4th:
VIRCOM'S BLACK MOON CHRONICLES
GOES PUBLIC BETA ON OCTOBER 4, 2001
Montreal, Canada (September 25, 2001), On October 4th, 2001, online RPG fans everywhere will be able to play the anticipated beta of Vircom's PC online game- Black Moon Chronicles - Winds of War. This cartoon-based, massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) is built around the fantastic universe of the graphic novel best seller that sold over 1,000,000 copies worldwide. To get a sneak peak of this product before October 4th, the company has released the official game preview demo, which reveals actual gameplay sequences and interface previews. For those who will need a little help getting started on this online adventure, Vircom has included an optional In-Game Tutorial with the beta.
While maintaining standard RPG elements (12 character classes, characters stats, etc...), Black Moon Chronicles offers players a unique gaming experience with its hand-drawn interface and a rich, compelling storyline that unfolds over a 50-level span. The action takes place in the Land of Lhynn, where a terrible massacre known as the Night of the Screaming Tears has torn apart many villages. This horror left in its wake death and destruction for its only survivors -- a few children called the Chosen Ones. The player impersonates one of the Chosen children, who have been rescued and raised by one of four Factions - one of the three Allies (The Empire, the Order of Light and the Knights of Justice), or the Priesthood of the Black Moon, a Faction that promotes corruption and chaos as means of taking over the Alliance and striving for eventual rule over Lhynn.
Despite their different values, the Factions that form the Alliance of the Empire are all united about one thing, to maintain the law and established order in the Land of Lhynn. Unfortunately, the Alliance is not alone. The Priesthood of the Black Moon, a dark force seeking change by conquest, corruption and chaos, is working against the Alliance to control Lhynn. The player's game will depend on the Faction they choose.
An exclusive Personalized Hint System, the Optional In-Game Tutorial and Vircom's team of professional Game Masters will ensure a smooth entry in the online gaming world for players of all gaming skills, including newcomers, console and PC gamers.
Black Moon Chronicles will be available online and in stores throughout America from November 1, 2001. Players can choose between a full box package including a 6-week free subscription for $34,95 and a jewel case start-up package including a 2-week free subscription for $9,99.
