Another MMORPG worth mentioning is Underlight due to its very unique concept. Now there's a developer diary over at Boundaries of Mist, written by Lyra-Glacier:

Seems there is a pattern emerging for these developer updates, so I’ll not rock the boat just yet.

My early dreaming days go about as far back as Dagger, but not quite. I had played a few random text-based RPG’s around the Internet, and I was looking for something to eat up time after my local pen and paper group dispersed. By that time I was already heavily involved with the local bulletin boards in my hometown, but nobody showed any interest in Role-playing there. At that point, I had pretty much given up on the whole idea… when I ran across an Underlight banner on Mplayer as I was searching for a decent Quake clan to razz. (No comment!)

After a few failed attempts at decent character development, I managed to settle on one idea that I liked. (Side note: In case you’re wondering, I won’t be releasing IC information. Sorry, I’m a big fan of my anonymity.) Much like Martin, I very rarely, if ever, took up more than a supporting role during my early days. The few times I did, I was very satisfied with the results. Even though some were less than what I expected, and others beyond what I imagined.
