The Matrix Online launch party took place at the Clift Hotel in San Francisco on the afternoon of March 17th. Interestingly, found surrounded by the likes of Prada and Chanel boutiques, the hotel was a great location for the launch of The Matrix Online. The interior decoration and populace struck me as straight out of the Matrix, seeming to strive for twenties era Modernism with hints of Victorian accessorizing in decoration. The Redwood Room Bar, supposedly carved from a single redwood tree, was backdropped by a wall of light and glass shelves featuring colored bottles. Seating consisted of high backed leather couches, plush arm chairs and walls of redwood paneling. The novel "Dorian Gray" was evoked by the decorative portraits on the walls, which in fact were giant lcd screens featuring models in period clothing sitting very, but not quite totally, still, as if for formal portraits.
