Actiontrip has done a review of Anachronox, and rated it 81/100. Here's a bit:

One other constrictive element in Anachronox is the turn-based combat system. I mean, it's nearly identical to the one in the Final Fantasy series. Sure, it adds a few tactical twists, but it just has the air of the FF combat. Unfortunately, the combat scenes in Anachronox are not nearly as spectacular as the ones in the FF series (I had a feeling that the boss creatures and the weapons weren't as imaginatively conceived and presented).

Anachronox in many ways leans heavily on the Final Fantasy series, which is in itself not so bad because the whole concept has been carried out rather successfully. What's different about this game though is that it was created by a bunch of Americans. Kinda like playing a Final Fantasy console game on the PC and with a US twist -- in terms of dialogue, humor, cultural influences, etc.
