Gamespy daily posted a diary from Shawn Carnes, designer at Artifact Entertainment, today. He talks about trade skills and how they are implemented in Horizons. Here's an interesting snip:
We're focusing on three distinct elements of gameplay in Horizons that will be meticulously interrelated with one another: adventure, trade skills, and community building. The various systems and tools that we create, both in-game and as a support mechanism for the game, go to further each of those ends. With this understanding comes the realization that trade skills represent a third of our focus for the entire product. The trade skill team is one of the largest in the company, with many sub-teams forming around it.
So then, what are we doing with that third of the game that makes it so important to the product as a whole? First and foremost, and I am going to emphasize this so that it is absolutely clear for everyone: It will be impossible for adventuring and community building to even exist in our game without trade skills. |
