Age of Wonders II: The Wizard's Throne: 9/10 points |
I've been playing Fantasy Turn-based strategy games since Archon on the C64 and I have to say this may be the best. Nice improvements from the first and adds new concepts to the genre. Great game when playin single turned-based as well as playin multi online simultaneous turns. |
Dark Sun 1 - Shattered Lands: 9/10 points |
I truly loved this game. It came in the middle of the huge RPG drought (1992-1996). This game was really the precursor to Baldur's Gate. It had a very similar interface and gameplay, just with 320-200 graphics :). Great game for the time. |
Etherlords: 9/10 points |
If you like Magic the Gathering and/or like the HOMM series then you MUST play this game. This game is my pick for most overlooked game of 2001. Excellent game! Great graphics too. And I heard Etherlords 2 is in the works, woot! |
Fallout 2: 7/10 points |
Great world and setting, probably the most interesting of any RPG. However the gameplay of this title was kinda limited. Just a handful of cities with random encounters between each. No exploration factor what-so-ever. The turned-based combat is what kept me playing till the end. |
Heroes of Might & Magic 4: 10/10 points |
Although it has horrid AI, Homm4 is the best in this excellent series and I've been playin them since King's Bounty. Once things are patched up and Multi is in, which is about to be released, the game will be perfect. |
King's Bounty: 9/10 points |
Kings Bounty rocked! The game that started it all for the HOMM series. I played it on the Genesis. |
Magic The Gathering Online: 9/10 points |
Leaping Lizard has done an excellent job of recreating all of what makes the real life game so great in one easy to use online package. You can play anytime with anyone in the world. The trade interface is excellent and trounyments start every five minutes. In many wayz its more fun to play online than in real-life. Now if it only didn't cost real-life bucks... |
Ultima 7 - The Black Gate: 10/10 points |
Ultima 7 is definately the best RPG to date. It had all these qualities:
- Huge, continuous world with no zoning, you could go anywhere, anytime but it would be a long dangerous journey, like it should be!
- You could interact with ANYTHING, pick up chairs, move tables around, stack crates.
- Recruit many characters for huge parties up to 8.
- Buy horses, boats, carts.
- Everyplace was unique and different.
- Many dungeons and caves, some small some huge.
- Completely non-linear with hundreds of well thought out quests and subplots, yet a great overall plot.
Can anyone, ANYONE name a game that has come close to Ultima 7??! I would love to hear of one. All I can think of is Ultima 6! All other RPGs to date have been disappointing cus they don't measure up.

Warcraft 3: Reign of Chaos: 10/10 points |
This game at least equals Starcraft as being the best RTS game ever made. The Hero concept adds a whole new Role-Playing dimension to the series, and I love it. This game is incredible. Once again Blizzard delivers. |
