E3 2003 Report Day 3

by Vincent 'Baff' Austin, 2002-05-17

The third and final day of E3...is it really over already???

Introduction

Well, its that time again, when many of the games that will be coming out for the next couple years are gathered together in one place. There is no way for me to see every game at E3, but I try to get around to see the biggest games and at the same time keep an eye out for interesting games from the smaller companies and those occasional new games. Here are the two games I got to see on the final day.

Neverwinter Nights: Shadows of Undertide

Game Info
Developer: Bioware
Pulisher: Atari
Platform: PC
Release Date: June
Who showed the game: Robin Mayne

Lots of nice additions coming in this expansion pack for NWN. Five new prestige classes: Shadow Dancer, Harper Scout, Assassin, Arcane Archer, & Blackguard. There are also 50+ new spells and 30+ new feats. One of the new feats, tracking allows you to inspect footprints to get some info on what may be coming up.

There are 19 new types of creatures: sphinxes, drakelings, pit fiends, gorgons, basalisks and more. Adding to the variety of the landscape, there are three new tilesets: snowy, desert, and ruins. We now have more control over henchmen with the ability to fully equip them. They have also added new scripting options for controlling the camera, which adds a new aspect to to those special scenes.

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic

Game Info
Developer: Bioware
Pulisher: Lucas Arts
Platform: PC, XBox
Release Date: Fall 2003
Who showed the game: Mike Grills (Artist / Level Designer)

Everyone knows Star Wars. KotOR takes place 4000 years before the movies, so while a the universe is a different place, its all still very familiar. You can play as either a Scout, Scoundrel, or Soldier.

There are a total of 9 npcs that can be in your party. You can have upto 3 people in your party, and any others will wait inside your ship, which acts as your home base. You can also upgrade our armor and weapons on the ship, or just change the color if you want.

Playing as good or evil will effect your dialog options, your appearance your powers, your quests, and of course the ending. Being evil increases your offensive powers and decreases your defensive powers, and vice-versa for being good. Your gender and the you Force powers also effect your dialog options.

If you should need a little break from the regular action, you can do some gambling and play around with the mini-games: a racing games, a turret game, and a card game similar to blackjack.
