Mike Fisher, former member of the Underlight team, now working on an undisclosed project (for now, we think he'll pretty soon go public with that) has written an interesting editorial at Arcadian Del Sol, entitled "Emerging from Under The Light". It's about the gaming industry, the hardships for small, independent developers and various other things. This is a part for you to make you click the link and read the rest:
For those interested in starting their own development company (or any company for that matter), I'd very much say go for it despite what the perceived odds are. There's something to be said for starting up for yourself with the ability to create a company that matches your ethics and goals, while also being able to do something you enjoy. As far as the gaming industry goes, sites like http://www.mpogd.com and http://www.gamedev.net are full of information on such projects. No matter what age you are or what resources you start with, there are always opportunities out there for people with good ideas so long as they dare to have faith in themselves. |
