Luke Guttridge from Ferrago.co.uk has written a short preview on Midgard, Funcom's new MMORPG (the other one they did was Anarchy Online). Here's a snip:
Funcom promise terrain to range from deep fjords, to snow-capped mountains via dark forests, baron tundra, and dramatic rivers. The world will be brimming with nature’s beauty, it would seem, but also nature’s terrors in the shape of trolls and ‘other dark beasts’, which the player will be able to hunt in the game. But violence seems set to be just a small slice of Midgard’s gaming-pie, as Funcom recreate in great detail the intricacies of everyday life in this strange world. ‘Every player will have a craft or trade in the (Midgard) village of their choice’, with players climbing the social/political ladder, contributing to the economy, building their village, and building their repute through their trade, harvesting the resources of Midgard, undertaking adventures and daring quests, as well as hunting. Through the sheer attention to detail that Midgard demands, Funcom hope to broaden the genre and add further detail and richness to the world through elements of real-time strategy, resource management, and further leanings towards the political potential of MMORPG’s. |
