Adrenaline Vault has posted the second part of their Warlords 4 developer diary by Dean Farmer from Infinite Interactive. This episode discusses AI:
One important task in AI design is to analyze areas in which a computer inherently excels and areas with which it has problems. For Warlords IV, my aim was build an engine that plays to the strengths of the computer, rather than putting the emphasis on plugging weaknesses. It’s very important that these strengths are correctly recognized and fully exploited for all they’re worth. If you attempt to match or exceed a human player in the wrong areas (such as pure tactical planning), you may find your AI falling desperately short of the mark.
