In what combines a bit of MMO history with a preview/praise of Vanguard: Saga of Heroes and Sigil Games in general, while also positing the future role of Microsoft in MMOs, GamerGod has posted an editorial entitled "Will Microsoft be the next Sony of MMO Gaming?". Here's some hot snippet action:
Sigil has also announced that Vanguard will be produced by Microsoft Game Studios. Those of us who remember what Sony had done to EQ were starting to get worried. Will a large corporation be the end of a player-base rooted game? Will Sigil be able to keep a hold of the reigns? On the official V:SoH FAQ, the question comes up and is answered like this: “the actual development of the game takes place almost entirely at Sigil, including design, art, and programming.” The concern still lies, will Microsoft be able to keep its hands off the goods if the game becomes the giant EverQuest was?
They seem to proclaim the death of EQ and Sony rather quickly with their assumptions, but it's a good read none the less. |
