Ultima 6 Online has recently been added to the RPGdot Games Database. In case you have not yet heard of the project, here is a short description;
U6O is a fan project aimed at recreating Ultima6 with the following differences;
-Modern interface and larger field of view (like Ultima7)
-Better sound and music (sound effects are new and midi works on modern systems)
-Multiplayer online MMORPG ("massively multiplayer"- everyone playing can see everyone else in the world)
The U6O website has recently been updated with the firs downloadable zipfile containing the U6O host/client software and project lead Galleon Dragon spends some words on his progress on the projects forums.
Well it's been a month! Why hasn't the site been updated? Is U6O a dinosaur? No! But when the code was tested on some different PCs it sometimes performed at 1 frame per second. So the graphics components needed to be changed. It seems the overhead of a directX call to draw a 32x32 16bpp square isn't worth the call when it can be achieved in many other ways. So it has been fixed. U6O is unlikely to run on machines operating at less than 500 megahertz. You will also need a 16bit or 32bit video card with 1024x768 or higher support.
U6O does not require hardware acceleration or 3D graphics cards so it runs well on laptops as well.
