NW Vault has posted a review of the fan module, SK-1 A New Begining. With a score of 6.5, here's a snip:Come on admit it. Most adventurers are just hayseeds with wanderlust. Characters grow up on a farm, get a sword and hit the road. But what makes them leave? SK-1 tries to answer that question, and more significantly, show what life was like before the PC left. Your characters begin on a local farm. It's dinner time and the bell is busted so Ma has you and your PC friends run all over the farm to gather up your various cousins, aunts and uncles. This is trickier than it sounds. There's a lot of them and you have to look at night. DON'T head into the swamp or down the road yet, you could bust the game. Follow Ma's instructions and gather them up. After dinner, your characters are instructed to take old Bessie the Cow to market. This is fun, and the best part of the mod. I can't remember the last time I had a skittish elderly bovine as a henchman. On the way to town the PCs come across a burnt caravan, the work of goblins. In town, Bessie is sold to the chopping block and a few other items of business are taken care of. Then the action really gets rolling. The farm has been attacked! You and your friends need to track down the goblins responsible. From there on out, it's mostly a hack and slash game with the party tearing a swath through the local gobbo tribe. However, this is also the most interesting visual part of the game as you fight knee deep in sludge against Goblin Spider Riders and even an Owlbear. If you and some friends are looking for a way to start of a new campaign, you could do worse than playing this mod. Just stick together and do what you're told. |
