The next in the ongoing stream of daily Warcraft 3 reviews is GoneGold's, which rates the title with a Platinum Award and 95% - here's a little from the review:
Heroes add a very limited, pseudo-RPG element to the game. They can level up and learn spells/abilities and have an inventory of up to six items. These items may be gained from defeating other heroes, NPC’s and may also be purchased from merchants. Heroes become very powerful and usually play pivotal roles in both the single player campaign and multi-player games. Unfortunately, the heroes in the single player campaign are assigned and aren’t very customizable. I never really identified with my heroes and thought of them as just more powerful units that gained abilities vice characters I was role-playing. On a positive note, your hero’s death doesn’t mean the loss of the map since he/she can be revived if you have constructed an Altar of Heroes.
