Gamespy has launched a week-long series of articles based around excerpts from a new book entitled 'Dungeons and Dreamers' which charts the early course of computer gaming. The book isn't restricted to RPGs but famous franchises like Ultima play an important role.

First up from Gamespy is an excerpt from Chapter 7 - Losing the Game Part 1 which tells the tale of Richard Garriott trying to sell the idea of Ultima Online to EA.

Next is an interview with Richard Bartle, credited as designing the first MUD.

The story of Richard Garriott and EA continues in Losing the Game - Part II with UO striking beta problems and running out of money. Finally, there's a Bill Trost interview - the lead designer of EverQuest.
