The 'World of Pirates' team sent us this notice regarding the imminent closure of the beta of their naval MMORPG...
14. Dec. 2004: Betatest will draw to a close

The public betatest will be finished soon. We want to thank all beta
testers for the brisk participation and for their numerous feedback.
Many problems and balance issues were fixed during the last 5 months.
Early enough for the upcoming version 1.0 the server hardware also got
an improvment. Now the new system is already running for a week. The
version 1.0 and thus the entry into the commercial phase of WoP is
planned for next week.

Thenceforward there will be several game servers: On the public live
server the time will be reset back to 1600 and the simulation will
start over. New players will get a limited amount of game hours to test
WoP without a fee. When the trial period is over a small one-time fee
will be matured. After this there aren't any more fees and it is
possible to play as long as desired.

WoP will also change continously after the version 1.0. In order that
all changes can be tested extensive a test server will be still
available. New versions of WoP get tested there and when it works fine
the patch will be applied on the public live server. Paying customers
will get access to both game servers automatically. As next great
improvement we scheduled clans and pirate cities, which were desired by
many players.

We hope, all beta testers had a lot of fun with WoP. In order that this
doesn't change we will improve WoP depending on the players feedback
furthermore.
