RPGVault has had the chance to pay a visit to the Star Wars Universe - well, not really, but they were invited to Bioware to take a look at Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. They wrote a visit rport afterwards, and it's a nice article, as this snippet shows:
Knights of the Old Republic will use a somewhat modified version of the d20 rule set. Accordingly, character creation will be familiar if you've played Dungeons & Dragons recently. If you haven't or if you don't want to customize your avatar, you can just pick one of the starting classes - scoundrel, scout and soldier - either gender and a name, then jump right into the game. Serious CRPG players will probably prefer to take a more detailed approach. In this case, you'll see the six familiar D&D attributes and the 3rd Edition-style point buy system. You can set each individually or hit the Recommended button to the designers' template for each class. Next, there are eight skill classes - computer use, demolitions, stealth, awareness, persuade, repair, security and treat injury. These are divided into class and cross-class types. A point buy scheme applies here as well, with cross-class skills costing twice as much. It appears classes will have different numbers of points available, with Scoundrels having the most. Last comes the selection of special moves and proficiencies called Feats. Related to these, it was noted that each one will have its own animation so you differentiate them visually. Over time, you can acquire various Force powers. Among those we saw were Hold, Choke, Lightning, Drain Life and Throw Lightsaber. |
