EverQuest 2: 2/10 points

Everquest 2 continues the tradition of mmorpg sequels being very bad. Sony seems to have had no clue as to what made Everquest 1 so popular. They removed nearly all freedom of choice from the players and try to hide that fact under a staggering amount of quests. The quests in the game are really the one bright spot. There are literally thousands of quests and nearly all of them work correctly and most are quite fun to do. On the other side of the coin however is the fact that there are 4 archetype classes, but all the subclasses are so interchangeable as to mean that there are really only 4 classes in the game. Races were similarly "balanced" as to be clones of one another so that really, there is only one race, the only real differemce being height. Zone choices are equally poor. The game progression is almost entirely linear. This ends up meaning that at whatever level you are, there are a very limited number of places to go to play and you will be sharing those with literally everyone else on the server, so zone overcrowding has been a real issue. And there is a quest to complete for most zones before you can even set food inside, this gets really tedious after the first few. And the worst thing about the game is how easy it is. Sony felt the need to hold the player's hand through everything. There is no wondering how tough any certain monster or group of monsters is going to be, they've laid all the numbers out for everyone to see. I played for a month, nealy maxed both adventuring and crafting levels and called it quits, theres just nothing there to hold interest.
