RPGVault has talked to Lead Programmer Jan Turan and Scenarist Konstantin "Dekon" Lipatov in an interview about 3D People's fantasy RPG Cult. Here's an excerpt that introduces the game:
Jonric: To start off, what kind of game is Cult, what factors have most influenced its concept and design, and what type of gameplay experience you are aiming to provide?
Jan Turan and Konstantin Lipatov: Cult is an isometric fantasy RPG for one dominant character with a focus on fast gameplay and a deep storyline. While developing the idea, we took inspiration from many different sources, such as fantasy novels and games. The player interacts with the game in two ways - one is the fantasy world, resembling a dark and medieval gothic Europe, and the other one is "Dreamworld". The material world is represented by a kingdom named Corwenth, in which game takes place. Dreamworld is an unseen plane of existence; it could be described as an astral projection of everything material that surrounds us in our physical world. Dreamworld has its own denizens, and the souls of dying or dead people also stay there for some time before entering Eternity.
In the game setting, Dreamworld is the source of a wizard's power also. Those who can use it are born infrequently, but and even greater rarity is the birth of those who can enter and travel Dreamworld alive. The main hero of the game was born as one of such rarities. At the beginning of the game, he learns how to use his unique abilities to gather information from the dead and to help the living, but later he discovers the true merit of the unseen plane in his destiny. |
