Dark Age of Camelot has been rated 125 times so far, average score: 7.62/10 points

Comments

Jay has rated 7/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from Jay)

EQ done (mostly) right. Continued development makes it more interesting as time goes on. Downside- A leveling treadmill and a PvP system where level is king makes for some damned unsatisfying gameplay at times.

Verbonek has rated 9/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from Verbonek)

By far the most refined MMORPG

brassi has rated 4/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from brassi)

I really disliked this game. It is basically EQ. The only thing good about it is that it is new.

Nietchse has rated 1/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from Nietchse)

Tedious-Boring-Leveling Treadmill-Nothing New-No Content-I would rather watch paint dry then endure playing this game beyond the first 2 weeks.

Very well developed game, constantly adding content, and has a well implemented PVP system.

Brian has rated 7/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from Brian)

It's got some bumps, but the developers are doing a great job working on it, and it's more refined than EQ.

Tarq has rated 1/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from Tarq)

Pointless.

IonHunter has rated 3/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from IonHunter)

Not much to say here.... I think everyone before me about summed it up as well as I could. Nietchse said what I think most people felt. To bad really. Chalk this one up for the "Could of been so much better" area.

Jandar has rated 2/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from Jandar)

I really tried to get into this game, but after a couple months I realized that the only reason I was still playing was because the company was trying so hard. Sorry, that's just not enough.

Snoekie has rated 5/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from Snoekie)

It's an empty world. You're FORCED to group and even then you could loose hours of experience points if someone else screws up. Certainly not a game I liked (and I tried for many months) but many disagree when I look at the number of subscriptions. Therefore I rate this game a five.

Kayless has rated 10/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from Kayless)

Can't believe this baby isn't higher :(

Yan Rupik has rated 5/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from Yan Rupik)

Well refined, but lacking depth; good if you like mindless level ladders, but lacking in any kind of real social content, or good story; the world is just nothing more that a collection of monsters to kill, and items to get.

Algy has rated 10/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from Algy)

DarkFencer has rated 8/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from DarkFencer)

This game kept me playing for too many hours then I'd like to admit in its first few months of release. I probably would have kept playing it if I had more time. The only qualms I have about the game, is the EXTREMELY slow levelling after 40 (the game lets you go to 50), and the class/realm balance. The balance between classes/realms is perhaps worse after their nerfing then it was at release. My main class (Eldritch) still has three spell lines that do not now have any effect, and many built their characters around these. If the balance improves, I may go back, but otherwise, it is a fine game.

Nate has rated 4/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from Nate)

Started out very fun, but bugs, non-implemented but prommised features. Leveling treadmill, no real unique spells for different classes, alot of bland stuff. Somewhat good looking graphics, focus is heavily on PVP which is okay, but 2 or 3 classes own PVP in this game, everyone else is just fodder. Equiptment system is sorta lame too and there are no really cool/unique dungeons/zones whathave you. In a word, this game is: Bland.

Tone has rated 3/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from Tone)

Adds little of innovation. Nothing revolutionary to see here just nother evolutionary game. Another pig of a game trying to suckle at Everquest's trough of money.

Icon has rated 1/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from Icon)

Just another eq clone with a half ass attempt at pvp

Torbin has rated 3/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from Torbin)

A beautiful world packed with absolutly no depth. DAoC had many interesting aspects, Classes were unique, and well balanced in general... but you had the few that stood out, or just made you cry. PvP had an interesting twist, but didn't live out because you had to be a high level stealther in order to last long. 3 months ago, I would have rated this a 5, but the developers constantly mess things up, by focusing on all the whiners in the community, and not fixing the actual problem itself. I'm sure in three more months, I would rate this a 1. It was a good idea, but in the final draft, it just didn't have the ingredients to make this game worth the money.

Arax_TheBold has rated 10/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from Arax_TheBold)

I just finally stopped playing this game a couple weeks ago. This game allows you to actually become someone in the game world. Sure its an EQ clone, but everything is better in this game then EQ and I doubt there will be anything to top it for a long time. And if you like politics then this game is for you. Creating a realm alliance is a huge responsibility that not one person can do alone so get ready to brush up on your diplomatic skills. This game is about huge armies clashing on the field of battle with other huge armies, if you gave this game a low score then chances are you quit before you could see something like this. Yes its a leveling tredmill and post 40 is rough. But you have to work for what you want it is nothanded to you. And should not be in this game.

Awsome ideas and concept, poorly implamented and tested. Developers are ruining the game right before our eyes. Massive changes have destroyed charaters, tactics, effectivness of skills. It gets worse with each nerf and patch.

Obviously not everyone's type of game. However, I like it and PvP is a blast (even for my somewhat gimped character). Some of you people are way too harsh on these ratings! I'm giving it a ten to pump it up!

Super game when starting out but gets boring due to lack of content at later levels. Small game world means there is only one hunting spot per level per realm (very restricting). Hopefully high level content and PvP system will fill out in the future.

Best on in its Class So Far

Valkyr has rated 8/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from Valkyr)

It's the second MMORPG I've played and it caught my attention immediately. I've played everyday for 8 months straight, have 4 characters each on 3 different servers in all 3 realms, and would give it a 10 except that I'm swiftly losing interest. Great premise, easily best graphics I've seen. Some new content recently has kept me playing, but even trying different realms and different chars, I find that for the most part its the same thing over and over. A post 40 lvl grind kept interesting only by the other members of your group. For the most part the people are what's kept me on this long. As well some obvious attention differences in the three realms. After visiting all 3 realms, its easy to say the most attention was given to Albion and Hibernia... simply walking into the main cities tells you that. I will continue to play, but if I had taken this poll 3 months down the road, this number could lower.

Gin has rated 9/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from Gin)

Good game, they are constantly adding on to it. I think half the people that gave it a bad rating a few months ago could go back and play it now, and find things changed to something they might enjoy. PVP is awsome, sure some classes play better there than others, but a truly good player can win with any class. You have to know the right tactic for what you play. Leveling is slow in the upper brackets though, so prepare to put in some time. PVP is a nice break from that.

Az has rated 3/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from Az)

A great game when you first get started with it. It quickly gets boring though, as leveling is just the same thing over and over and over again. The RvR combat isn't worth it, most of the time it just comes down to whose horde of people is larger. This tends to always be one sided, then again, being mezzed for the entire battle isn't fun either. There is also no high end game.

A great game that is still in a patch work of balancing out. While worth it to play if your tired of the twicking and broken economy of EQ. Come play for all 3 realms have something to offer. With the focus on guilds in Daoc it is a very newbie friendly game. In RvR yes High lvls do rule but you can be a highlvl in about 6 weeks if you stay focus on the ooow-no-not-a-expericence-tredmill-again even that is well worth it. The player crafting and tradeskilling is well worth if you have the time and pateince. In all Dark age of Camelot is still growing and developing with great ppl and a well thought out game that very beutiful and fun. The RvR is well worth it with 3 battlegrouds for lvls 20-24, 25-29, and 30-35 to give them a chance to grow and learn about the enemies of their realm. And each class if played right can do very well in RvR. It just take time, pateince and pratice to become a very good player. And those who compare it to EQ have only played the 30 days because it isnt even close to EQ on some many many levels.

Would be a ten if not for the levelling treadmill after 40. Even so until you have been part of a full battle between two realms you cannot rate this game. The sheer adrenaline rush will be hard to match. If you can stick it out for a few weeks you will be rewarded.

To be fair the game has great graphics. It feels nice at first and you can get sucked into leveling your character pretty easy and there is nothing wrong with that. However there are players like me who prefer to be lone wolves and like to explore and fight alone. Unfortunaltelly for me I chose a class which sounded quite what I wanted when I picked it but turned out very unsuited for being solo- the Warden. Well, regardless I stuck with it as I didn't want to erase my month's efforts and tried to compensate with skills or strategy what my character lacked because of designers' decisions. Needless to say things were slow, very slow and my skills and experience-real not my character's had very limitted effect. I progressed so slow that I couldn't take it any more and cancelled my account. I had to spend countless hours in the same area before moving on simply because exploration of higher level areas is too risky. I couldn't PvP and what I heard from the high level wardens made me beleive that even after months of leveling and reaching higher levels I would still need to 'group' to even stand some chance. If you want a game to 'level' and 'group' in repetativelly with some vague meaningless PvP opportunity on the horizon DAoC is for you. Otherwise you can pick up a single player rpg game or wait for the release of a truely original MMORPG - not a clone.

the most boring Leveling of any of the MMoRPGs I have played..RvR has some fun moments but the lag and the fact that someone higher lvl will always win unless they are stupid makes it to predictable and uninteresting.

SergioCQH has rated 6/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from SergioCQH)

Dark Age of Camelot receives a lot of complaints about the lack of content within the game. This complaint is unfair as DAoC has not had as much time to develop as its main competitors. The experience from kills leveling system has got to go though.

awesome! Great job by "underdog" developers in creating a fun & diverse world. Proves that the little guy CAN develop a viable game to compete with the huge giants. & the coolest thing is, this game will continue to improve in depth & content over time.

Nigel has rated 1/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from Nigel)

Hack and slash. Mana dump and run. Level-based advancement. Near impossible solo play. PvM required for merchants (unless you're a twink and are given materials and money). Fanatasic visually and amazingly good gameplay even at 56k dial-up. All this adds up to a very fancy monster basher with a "dangling golden apple" of realm vs. realm warfare (which you'll find is grotesquely unbalanced; i.e. Midguard may outnumber Hibernia 4 to 1 on some shards). Ugh & icky.

Lachlyn has rated 9/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from Lachlyn)

I like DAoC quite a lot. I came from an EQ addiction, and most things in EQ that really annoyed me are deliberately rectified in DAoC. Plus I think the graphics are more realistic, less 'cartoony' than EQ. It started out running flawlessly, and has had very few burps. Whereas EQ, even after 3 years is still a buggy mess. Six zillion patches do not a Masterpiece make. I still play EQ, but I prefer DAoC. EQ has more depth now, but I put that down to the time they have had to insert content. I fully expect DAoC to grow as it goes. I happen to enjoy the RvR aspect too...taking keeps, and battling enemy realms of PCs. I played DAoC since it game out, and I am just now approaching Level 48, but that is because I made too many characters. Right now I still don't feel I will be bored at 50, as some are...but we shall see. Given the current choices available, this is where I prefer to go online with friends. Excellent game, Mythic.

Mazzy has rated 10/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from Mazzy)

I've been playing Camelot since release and I am still discovering new things. Camelot has a very unique way of managing both solo and team based combat so that it is interesting for either type of encounter. The skill leveling system, environments, and Realm vs. Realm segments are all top notch. Mythic's quest system blows EQ's out of the water. I could go on and on...

Zamolxis has rated 9/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from Zamolxis)

This was my first mmorpg (I played EQ after DAoC) and for me it was a great experience. It is stable, very few ways for people to grief you. Class/realm balance is not perfect but pretty good. It has varied classes and spells with very nice visual effects. It encourages grouping (you usually get more experience in a group than solo) but you can always solo if you so desire. Personally I play mmorpg for groups not for solo though. I love thier quest system, which can be put in one two words "no campig" which is a great plus compared with AO or EQ. I leveled a few months my char to 50 then I did RvR/PvP for a few more months before I quit. I played it for a total of 7-8 months before I got bored. But that in my opinion is great for game (I don't expect to play a game forever) and I have no regrets paying for this game. It can be classified as an EQ clone but it is a very well done clone :)

Kelendil has rated 8/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from Kelendil)

By far the most entertaining MMORPG out to date. IMO the best rpg in the last 5 years. With the nonstop player interaction, the post 50 rvr, along with skills to gain from killing other players, the new expansion, with new places to see and endless things to do. This game seems to have all the others covered... with dirt.. :) I eat dirt alot in rvr, but atleast there is rvr. I can't believe I played EQ for so long without PVP, DAOC reminds me of the open ended pvp from the old TEXT muds, moooooooooooooooshes, we all used to play.

Frogs has rated 4/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from Frogs)

It was better in the beginning. Some of the changes have really hurt the high level game play. Mythic is content to let a few classes reap the rewards of RvR while others languish at the bottom of the standings since release. An appeal for customer service has at least a 2hr wait time in most cases. Good game if you are a class that is wanted in groups and is good in RvR. A bad game if you are a class that isn't - cause Mythic isn't going to do squat to help you.

Sloth has rated 9/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from Sloth)

I overall really like daoc, I have been playing it since about a week after it was released. Alot of things have changed and some for the worse and some for the better. I still keep playing it though and I absolutely love the aspect of RvR, that all your Leveling and questing and getting the best gear really means something when you go toe to toe with other players, and even that has a pay off of realm points. However what I dont like is the way Mythic patches, overnerfing, unbalancing to rebalance ina new form, they never buff charcters up to balance the game, or not nearly enough, they more often then not nerf anything that stands out as extra affective into the ground so no one would play it. Midgard for Life Hand of Bragi

Treads has rated 1/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from Treads)

I think like all other companies DAoC is all about the money, they have a very poor player to game programer relations, and the game programers sit back and basically nicely tell the players to fend for themselves, in the patch that nerfed Left Axe , yes to most that was a long time comeing but to some it caused alot of heart ache trying to go from a respec that would need more then a single line respec, and what did Mythic say?? they said go kill a dragon that on alot of the server's does not have the player base to do such a thing, what i am saying basically is that when mythic released this game they should of sat down and thoguht of a way to generate a player to programer relation so that when they actually do a nerf like this or later down the road they do not just say , i am sorry your SoL we do not care attitude. other then that the game runs with glitches far more then EQ does , and is no where near the program as EQ.

Blahblah has rated 7/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from Blahblah)

You people crack me up. The ones who rate this game below a 7, have obviously never played to level 50 "and" rvr'd. Sure the game is unbalanced and has been since release but what do you expect from a game that is trying to be Everquest with PVP? The result in this horrible attempt is a game that lacks a huge amount of content and is still unbalanced in rvr. That doesn't mean this game isn't fun. I have played nearly all of the graphical mmorpg's that have ever been released. I have 3 level 65's in Everquest with atleast a hundred AA's each. I have 4 level 50's "all albs" in DAoC, one scout that rocks :) Quickshot sucks BTW.. Over 3.5 million rps thank you Kay/mid/hibs For any of you to make a comparison of these two games, stating that DAoC is a carbon copy of EQ, are just ridiculous statements that automatically add you to the "do not read this guy/girl's post because he/she is an idiot who never actually played the game long enough to realize the "MANY" differences list" :P EQ is the BEST content oriented mmorpg I've EVER played. DAoC is the BEST mmorpg when it comes to PVP on a massive scale simultaneously. There are no other mmorpg's that I have played that even scratch the surface of what these two games have accomplished. I do apologize, for this is not a flame, just know the games before you post general rubbish about them k thanks :O)

Quoting Justin: "Like the reviewer said, graphics do not make a game. While I do agree that they do help get a player more immersed in the game world, the game mechanics also have to keep the player immersed which I find severly lacking in DAoC. If you love online hack and slash games, look no further than DAoC."

I played that game since release. This is the best MMORPG I've ever played. You do PvE if you decided to. You can do PvP when you feel like doing it. There, loot as as important as player crafted items. I mean, to max all your stats, you need dropped items as well as player crafted items...

thank god a game where the woman characters don't run around with butt floss crammmed up their arse and breasts giving them whiplash when the run about. aside from that the game can get tedious at times, but it had managed to hold my attention for almost 3 yrs. the customer service way out shines the verant cs i received, or should say didn't receive since that is what made me leave that game. will be interesting to see how daoc holds up with games like WoW, rysom, CoH and MO coming out ...

Love this game. Am at level 32 and not finding it a struggle yet to level. I battle with my friend, a reaver of 30th at the moment. We have been in the battlegrounds and love it. Working on stealthers for it :P

Clearly the best MMORPG I ever played. Excellent leveling system. Very good combat and craft systems. Average PvP and quests system. Multi-classing unavailable.

One of the best mmorps I have played and I have played a lot. Even the newer ones and this one keeps dragging me back in. It's the pvp system which makes this game so damn addicting after the first 2 months. And as of 8-5-04 mythics improvments to this game have been unbelievable.

Really decent MMORPG. Better than everquest/shadowbane et al, but needs to be heavier on the RP side of things. RvR is a great idea, if only they toned down the spec requirements for it! Some of us, love the RvR but can't fork over another 1k bucks for a new computer to run the new frontiers. As with all the companies running these mmorpgs, they need to cater to peoples needs (ie if something is stuck get off yer ass and unstick it!) or....stop forcing folks to pay 15 a month just for the privlege of playing your game! Hmmmm, Lets see what Guildwars.com has to offer! AhoooYa!
