When looking at the new Heroes products, I can't help but wonder if, some day, the (now diminishing) staff of New World Computing will try to go back to the chess-like elegance and simplicity of their first title, Heroes of Might and Magic (I). Even after having played II and III, I still find myself playing the first installment every once in a while. I would love to see an updated HOMM, with marketplaces and more creatures, keeping the fine balance and warmth (a warmth that is lacking in these rotoscoped creatures of III and IV, in my opinion) that keeps me coming back. |

The first PC Game I ever bought with my own money was the C$40 I spent on a little known game called King's Bounty. It was incredible. I never saw a video game system like it.. Maybe a 9 is to high a score today for this classic considering that Heroes 2 was better in every single way, but when it came out I loved it as much as I later loved Heroes 2 and maybe would love Heroes 3 , expect for the fact that they killed the perfect fairytale look in the 3rd installment =( , if I someday get time to play it. A simple but addictive game. And maybe even more cute than Heroes 2. If thats good or bad is a matter of taste, but Heroes 3 and 4 is in my point of view much uglier than the two first games. |
