VoodooExtreme has kicked up an interview with lead designer Ragnar Tornquist of Funcomīs upcoming Viking themed MMORPG Midgard. The game is set in and around events from the Norse mythology.

Hereīs a teaser:

Voodoo Extreme - How did you come up with the idea for Midgard?

Ragnar Tornquist - I think we'd been bouncing the idea around for quite a while -- mostly as a joke, actually, as in "wouldnīt it be cool if we did a game based on Norse mythology, seeing as we are Norwegian?". But the concept didnīt gel until we got into a dialogue about what to do after Anarchy Online. Thatīs when we sat down, thought about it, and figured, "you know, it *would* be cool to do a game based on Norse mythology!". So we did. From the outset, however, weīd decided that this wasnīt going to be a hack-and-slash fantasy game. Instead, we wanted to focus on the more social, political, and strategic aspects of the game-play. And we wanted to ground it in history and historical mythology. This is why we chose to make Midgard: to give people a new kind of online experience, and to do this in a really unique and interesting setting.
