The recently released NPD Group list of the best selling PC Game software for April 2004 certainly bears that out. Only in a weak release month could a mediocre budget-priced title like Lords of the Realm III crack the top 20. More interesting, though, is the story that the rest of the new releases tells. The highest debuting games - coming in at number 1 and number 7 - are the two MMOs NCSoft launched during the same week, City of Heroes and Lineage II. Clearly the MMO marketplace isn't so saturated that new MMOs won't be able to get at least an initial sales burst as new players try them out. In fact, City of Heroes was the 5th best-selling piece of software for all categories - managing to beat out the basic edition of TurboTax 2003!
