The latest Eve Online Diary at ActionVault is a) #10 and b) written by Hrafnkell Oskarsson. He talks about the "agent system" in their upcoming MMORPG (a futuristic, space based one). Here's a bit:
Lets start with the agent network. All factions in EVE, and there are many of those, have a number of agents. The ones in any given faction are arranged in a ladder - the first agent you get for a faction is the one in the lowest rung of the ladder. Your starting agent is very important because from him, you build your agent network; i.e. the agents you know. An agent in one faction can hook you up with an agent from another faction (invariably a faction allied or closely associated with the agent's own). So not only can you climb the agent ladder of the faction your starting agent belongs to, you can also acquire agents from other factions and start climbing those faction ladders, and so on.
So how does one acquire an agent? The main concern is completing missions for agents. For lower level agents completing a set number of missions is enough to advance, but for higher level agents as well as those that link to agents with another faction, several other restrictions may apply. For instance, the character might be required to have a minimum standing towards a faction, or even maximum standing towards another (rival, enemy) faction. Other criteria that could apply include security status, skills, wealth, race or corporation rank. |
