Great game, more or less invented the "sneaker" game. If it had had more of a continuous story and a few more RPG elements it would have been a little better yet. |

Oh the sleepless nights of playing this one! This is one of few that made me jump, gringe, and laugh at the same time. I will always have a clean spot on my shelf for this bad boy. I'll never forget the first time I shot a guard throug the neck with an arrow. I still hear the silence..... |

Definately NOT a PRG. Nonetheless, it's pretty good. Some of the levels are great fun, while others later in the game are plain weird a pain to play. But hey, Looking Glass brought us System Shock and Ultima Underworld, so why complain :) |

It doesn't have any numbers and you never progress to whacking things harder or faster. However it does have one of the most involving story lines written and acted in any rpg or action game. Its funny, insulting, debasing and unpredictable. Being drawn into a world and role is much the point of the rpg genre - Theif does that with a competence rarely seen. |

I kneel before Looking Glass Studios. They have already given us Ultima Underworlds I and II, Terra Nova, System Shock and Flight Unlimited, and now they cement their godlike status with Thief: The Dark Project. The most suspenseful game I have ever played, Thief incorporates the player into a life of thievery in a sometimes squalid, sometimes forboding medieval environment. With an epic storyline and the smartest AI seen on the PC to this day, Thief is a must play for (I am not kidding here) anyone who has fingers.
Thief Gold, which is the director's cut version of this game, incorporates three planned missions which were cut due to time constraints as well as DromEd, Looking Glass' in-house mission editor, among other goodies! Worth the buy even if you own the first (I did!)! |

I'm not a fan of the mission structure, and the graphics were poor even for its time, but for downright subliminal control of my emotions, no other game has rivaled this... except possibly T2. My only regret is that I was too scared to finish it... |

I have absolutely no idea why some people woukld classify Thief as an RPG! Still, its an excelent game. The concept of u being a thief is fantastic. I finshed the the game several times on Expert and believe me when I say that that this is the optimal difficulty method. It much more rewarding sneaking around trying to pickpocket someone than running around with a rocket launcher and killing everything in your path.
A must have! |
