Codemaster's official Dragon Empires site has posted a dev diary by the mysterious Tester X (cool name...) whixh is really more of a beta report. Here's a clip:
With that being said, what does the game look like? I can honestly tell you that you will gasp when you see the "cloud" login screen (the camera pauses amongst the clouds for a few seconds as your character is logged in) if it is still part of the login process when you get to test. This game is in Beta 0, but you can already see the absolute beauty that is inherent in the graphics system. Movement is lifelike, weapons look very detailed (the bows are unreal) and the water looks great. While graphics don´t make an MMORPG, they can destroy one if the graphics are sub par. I can honestly say DE is on par with the next generation of MMORPGs that are going to come out. One thing some games overlook is “scale”. Mountains should appear differently at different distances, as should towns and so forth. This is one of Dragon Empires sterling achievements. The attention to scale is present from the moment you log in. Mountains look majestic from afar, and intimidating when next to them. The same goes for towns. Another key element that makes games seem “right” is ensuring they sound like they should. This includes weapons clanging against armor, and accompanying medieval music ensembles. So how does it sound? I have no idea hehe. They have turned off sound right now. So I am as in the dark about that as the rest of you are. However, I assure you that the moment they turn the sound on, I will add a diary input telling you all about it.
