Baldur's Gate 2 - Shadows of Amn: 6/10 points

Baldur's Gate 2 is a sequel that pretty much failed in everything its predecessor did correct. BG1 recreated the Sword Coast and the city of Baldur's Gate in a way that brought the forgotten Realms to life. They took a part of Faerun and made it real and then put a story and a plot on top of it and allowed the player to explore the world in a semi-nonlinear way. The story for BG1 was quite mysterious and had a large number of CNPC's that allowed for a plethra of different party combinations. Baldurs Gate 2, on the other hand, had none of this. The game was longer, but very linear. There were more quest, but too many, to the point that they actually started hindering the story. The NPC's had personalities now, but there were less of them, and created for a weird multipersonality effect that did not work well with the kind of game they were trying to create. For instance I could have a lawful character break the law, and then hear him preach how he is so righteous. The story and twist were pretty much obvious from the onset. The battles were less fun, I think I spent the majority of time reloading endless battles against mages that were pretty much invulnerable. The flame that was lit with BG1 was definately put out with BG2. Like My pappy used to say if it aint broke don't fix it.:(

Evil Islands: 7/10 points

I don't know why, but I love this game. Some stand outs are exceptional 3D environment with the best pathfinding I have seen in a game. It is the only 3rd person isometric game to actually allow a person to play a rogue, and it really comes through as a hack and slash RPG. This game was way ahead of its time, and had some revolutionary ideas and unbelievable settings. This games deserves a lot more credit then it gets.

Fallout - A Post Nuclear Adventure: 10/10 points

Simply put the best CRPG ever made. This game is the gold standard, the measuring stick at which all other CRPG's should be measured by. Its objective to deal with morality in a post apocalyptic world was a masterful success. It even had Macgyver.

Neverwinter Nights: 4/10 points

Poor Design. NWN's goal during production was just too big. They wanted to make a game that could be a single player game, a multi-player game, an easy to use campaign toolkit and a dungeon master program. The end result looks like they bit off more then they could chew. NWN excels in one area and that is multi-player, and for that matter is the first truly multiplayer RPG. However, the caveat is that a good DM is required for multi-player since the campaign does not offer a very good DnD experience. As for the single player game, it is very mediocre. Combine this with an engine designed to make everyone a game developer and you end up with a game that offers none of the atmosphere of Bioware's previous games and a campaign that seemed to be tacked on in the end. If this were not enough, NWN has taken what I think is the wrong approach to CRPG's. This is an almost console/action game approach. Essentially the gameplay is a single player character that fights through hordes of weak monsters, through ludicrously long combat animations, to fight one big monster at the end of an incredibly mundane dungeon. Forgive me for the run-on sentence, but that is the best type of grammar to use to describe NWN's mechanics. NWN successfully takes the 3E DnD rules and forces a type of gameplay onto it that DnD rules were never meant to handle. Such as a single character with one henchmen, that is little to no help at all due to poor AI, in real time combat. This makes combat in NWN very mundane and completely void of tactics, which is especially dissapointing since the majority of the game is spent in combat. Suffice it to say I was dissapointed.

Pool of Radiance - Ruins of Myth Drannor: 3/10 points

When I think of PoR2 I think of potential. This game had a lot of problems during development and it showed. I think the combat implementation was the best part of the game, however this too was hampered with a lot of boring encounters, and incredibly slow animation sequences. I think the potential for a good game was definately here but the end result is a bad game.
