Hope we aren't getting on your nerves with all them DAoC news yet but a game that has sold over 200.000 copies is definitely worth some newsbittin' :)
1) The Pendragon test servers have updated to version 1.43. Go here to check out the full patch release note.
2) Matt Firor has posted some info on why some melee classes (Blademaster, Hero, Mercenary) were given special abilities with regular (i.e. non-Pendragon) patch version 1.42.
3) In case you are/have been a participant in the European beta of DAoC you have probably had a hard time finding a free slot on one of the servers. The server limit was set to 2000 and it was virtually impossible to log on at 'prime time' (weekend and evening hours GMT). There's some good news for those of you who fought an endless battle to finally be able to log on (including myself - I hated it :)). Three new servers are supposed to go online real soon. A second one in France called 'Ys', another one for England called 'Prydwen' and a 2nd German one called 'Lyonesse'. Haven't checked the other ones but 'Lyonesse' has definitely gone online today. No hustle to log on today. I clicked and was there (on Avalon, the 1st German server). However, only quick joining worked for me. The server selection menu always crashed when I tried to log in.
But we still haven't hit the real cool news yet. Mythic/GOA have managed to install their 1GBit connection a little faster than expected, thus allowing 3500 players per server instead of 2000! I.e. they've doubled the amount of servers (a new one for each of the three countries involved) PLUS they've almost doubled each server's capacity/bandwidth. Well, I am excited to see if all that suffices to allow all weekend players to log in but things are looking great right now and I'm really enjoying the game in its current state. |
