RPGDot Game Rating Machine

Ioannis has rated the following games:

Ultima 8 - Pagan: 10/10 points

Despite what people still stuck with the eight "virtues" and all say, Ultima VIII Pagan achieved a level of realism and immersion unheard of at those days, and even today. Graphically, sound-wise and in terms of gameplay it made breakthroughs that surpassed the (very high already) standards set up by other Ultima games. After years of gaming however, I believe that the legacy of a game is measured not so much in terms of technical advancements or stubborn adherence to certain "golden rules"; rather, the true measure is the level of immersion that you experience while playing the game. I have to agree with Nibble that Pagan is in a very sparcely populated league of its own, along with Fallout, System Shock, Gothic and the Stygian Abyss; all of which trully excell not because of the amount of ("realistic") things they let you do, but rather for the amount of things they implicitly force you NOT to (enter a particular corridor for fear of a certain foe, and so on). The fact that any barriers to the action are not plot-related but strictly imposed by YOU, can and does make all the difference in the world.
