EveGate has chatted with Nathan "enn" Richardson, Server Admin at Siminn (the company that's going to run the EVE live servers) about the server technology behind CCP's space-based MMORPG.
Here's a bit:EVEGate: How much bandwidth is there from the server cluster and to the net and how much bandwidth between the servers? And how much do you expect eve to use up with the full complement of 100,000 players online?
Nathan: EVE isn't a very high bandwidth game. 56K users should be able to play it quite happily. Okay, maybe not quite happily, but happily nonetheless. ;) We don't have final calculations on expected usage and Cable & Wireless are our backbone provider so we have good access to bandwidth. Between servers, there are standard 100Mbit or 1Gbit single or multiple Ethernet connections. | Source: Blue's |
