A very well written preview of Morrowind can be found at AVault today. In our snippet, the author talks about the "500 hours of gameplay" Bethesda Softworks is claiming for the game:
The developers claim Morrowind could possibly feature around 500 hours of gameplay when all the multitudes of side quests are factored in. Initially, I found that number impossible to believe, but after playing for a number of hours, I'm a believer. The island of Vvarvendell is monstrous. Your first quest has you delivering a package to an attaché of the emperor in the merchant town, Balmora. You have the option of taking a silt strider, a giant flea-like bug that serves as a sort of Vvarvendell bus service, to instantly reach Balmora, but I opted to go on foot to explore more of the scenery. After following the signs along the road, doing a single quest involving finding a woman's errant lover, exploring the wilderness a bit, and simply having a blast, I arrived in Balmora a full two hours later. I checked out the in-game world map that reveals how much of the island you've seen, and gasped as I saw how little I had actually explored. Morrowind doesn't suffer from Daggerfall's random and repetitive towns, dungeons and wilderness, either. Everything in the world is hand-placed, ensuring players will see something new no matter where they choose to travel. |
